There are those days that loafing around by the pool and having the fabulous Victor keeping your children entertained becomes too much to handle. In other words, I don't sit still very well. The clouds were rippling over the sky so I thought it was time to go and have a wee field trip. In this case, it was a trip to Monkey Park.
This place is just within Los Christianos at the top of the hill. We took a cab from the Hotel to Monkey Park for the fee of 3 euros. Yes, it was close enough that had we known and been willing to walk all the way up the hill, we could have done it easily. Having said that, it was one of those places that I had been debating going to as the reviews were sketchy at best. However, on arrival, the entrance was small but the exhibits were great.
This is a place where you can interact with the animals, feed them and engage with them. You can explore the signage or just wander for an hour or two. They have some food for sale but if you can bring your own fresh fruit it adds to the experience. The children spent an hour vegging with the tortoises and playing with the young lemur that was very active and friendly. The other exhibits were lovely and the animals looked to be well cared for. The cages were being well cleaned while we were there and there was staff in every corner. I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a brief afternoon juant and I would say that the price was very reasonable too.
In the evening, we went to the Belvedere restaurant. I have to say that the food is very good in the area, but the better food is in the mountains. That is if you are looking for local fare. The staff are all lovely with the children though and this restaurant even had a swing set for them to play on. All in all, this was a grand day out...especially the loafing by the pool and having the clouds play with you.
